Whether you want to take in a Mariners game in the evening or need to do some shopping, Seattle is a great place to explore.
During the weekend of the Conference the Mariners will be home, and taking on the hated (by us Seattleites) New York Yankees. To buy game tickets or learn more, just go to www.mariners.com. Ken Griffey Jr. will be back again in 2010, and we're predicting big things for the team this year. The Bronx Bombers may have the biggest payroll in baseball, but the Mariners definitely have more heart!
Seattle is also a great city for restaurants, especially (but not only) if you like seafood. For ideas on where to go for a quick bite or a nice dinner, just click here. Try plugging in "Downtown Restaurants," "Waterfront Restaurants," or anything else that appeals to your palate.
Head on down to the Seattle Center, home of the 1962 World's Fair. Take in the view of Puget Sound from the top of the Space Needle. Then hop on the Monorail and go to Westlake Mall for some great shopping in the mall and at the original Nordstrom store across the street.
Despite Seattle's reputation for rain, the weather here in July is great. If you have an extra day, a fun thing to do is drive down to the Johnston Ridge Observatory (closest of three observations points to the volcano) at Mount St. Helens. From there, you can see a video presentation of the explosion, then look down into the crater itself. To check current weather conditions at the mountain, click here. Another great side trip takes you into a different country. From Seattle, the drive north to the Canadian border is less than three hours. You can go shopping in Vancouver, take the ferry to British-inspired Victoria, or go another two hours north from Vancouver to Whistler, location of the events at to 2010 Winter Olympics. Whistler is great in the summer too, with lots of hiking trails and even summer snowboarding! If you decide to go up to Canada, be sure to bring your passport or enhanced ID. Driver licenses are no longer accepted for a trip across the border.
